Leif Ericson Camp  was named in honor of the famous Viking explorer Leif Erickson, son of Eric the Red, explorer of Greenland. In the year 1000, Leif, leading an expedition of Vikings in longboats,  became the first European to set foot on North America.

Visitors, parents and their campers enter by turning south off East 26th Street at the Big Sioux River. On entering the camp, they will move south toward activity areas, with the staff headquarters and garage the first of 12 camp buildings visible.
